Metronome

Unheard,
a silent tune plays it's melody.
The relentless beat,
of a dance unseen,
echoes inside an empty hall.

Alarm Call

As I lay awake, dark skies still lurk behind blackened curtains.

Cars and lorries drive by relentlessly,  like a long slow, snaking train, rumbling towards the dim, smoky station in the distance.

Birds begin their vocal warm up as they embark on a hunt for food,  their feet sliding on damp roof tiles.

Floorboards creak eerily, and walls begin to expand,  making cracking noises as pipes heat, causing adrenalin to rush through the veins and the heart to pound as you imagine the non existent visitor in the rooms below.

Through it all,  you remain a constant, a reminder of my early rise, why I can't sleep, a repetitive pounding, making me twist and contort, but despite my efforts,  you won't leave. I suppose I'll just have to accept you're here for good.
